Painting Link’s fall through the clouds
One Moment From the Teaser
On 15 June 2021, Nintendo released a new teaser for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I chose the brief shot of Link falling from the clouds and repainted it as a personal study the following day. The goal was to keep the weightlessness of the moment while rebuilding its composition in my own visual language.

The reference board isolates the pose, clothing, clouds, and colors needed to reinterpret the shot.
A Fall Held by the Clouds
Link’s diagonal pose creates the movement, but the clouds control the rhythm around him. Their broad cream and lilac shapes open a path through the center, while the small floating island below gives the fall distance and scale.

The painting develops from the central gesture outward, adding atmosphere before the smaller costume details.
The original MP4 speed painting shows the full sequence from sketch to final color.
Keeping the Figure Inside the Atmosphere
Warm skin and hair tones separate Link from the cooler shadows without making him look pasted over the sky. Edge softness changes across the piece: the face and clothing stay more defined, while the clouds dissolve into one another.

The close views lead back to the finished vertical composition and its sense of open air.
